Final Thoughts before My Exam

Just a short one.

The big day is tomorrow. I'll be waking up early (insya Allah) and taking the taxi to our train station (around 25 minutes away). From the station I'll be catching a train to Birmingham where the exam is held. The exam hall is in Clarendon & Barrett suites, 2 Stirling Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham (wherever that is). As soon as I arrive in Birmingham, I'm hoping to get a taxi to the exam centre.

Part 1 of the exam is at 10am, part 2 is at 230pm.

Right now, I'm packing my bags and getting ready for the journey. To be honest, I'm slightly excited (read: jacked up with adrenaline). Everyone has been giving advice for me to bring food as the exams are 3 hours long for each of the two papers. Of course I'll be packing essential survivor rations rich in important nutrients such as sugar, salt, potassium, fat and the most important elements of all: Chocolate & Ribena (Cho & Ri in the elemental table).

I'm also carrying a huge textbook - Kumar & Clark in my backpack ---- joking! --- I'm in the process of printing last minute revisional papers: statistical formulas (numbers needed to treat, chi squared test, absolute risk bla bla), autosomal recessive & autosomal dominant diseases lists and a list on autoantibodies.

If I have extra time after the exam I would like to go to the Apple Store in Birmingham & sight seeing around town:) Probably treat myself to a lonely coffee as well:D

I feel so sorry for the little ones as recently they have been all but ignored by yours truly. After my exams I still have to finish one more set of nights before the weekend, but this weekend I'm hoping to spend well deserved quality time with the family.

OK, I'm praying it'll all go well

Mental note:
  • bring your passport
  • bring an umbrella (forecast: rainy) and something warm to wear
  • bring the exam documents

(If only I could bring the laptop to use on the train .....)

Auntie De and Mama Sarah
*sheepish grin* usually I am very careful about my mobile, I am careful to return it to in my bag after using it. The night before I awoke feeling very hot. After tossing and turning I groggily gathered my duvet (ni tidur kat floor living room) and bundled off to bed. I must've brought my mobile on to the bed with me, because that is where I found it after calling my mobile phone company to bar my mobile. :D
So tonite I get to call an 0870 to unbar my phone. Sheeshkabob.

mynn
I love the Apple Store!!! I went to the one in Regent Street last year... takut nak pergi balik... takut teruja nak shopping.

to everyone: thank you for the kind words, thanks auntie de for your exam day fashion advise (very important, you know) hope everything will go okay, insya allah.

i'm too tired to blog tonight! so, i'll just post a comment instead. the exam was hard work ... combined with the late night last night, early travelling this morning & late finish, i'm pretty beat. and tomorrow I have to do a night oncall as well!

at least i have the weekend to look forward to. Buat MRCP exam ternostalgia buat finals kat wales, eh auntie de? studying before exams, masuk exam room, jawab paper ... macam student pulak! it was pretty fun.

KKL moral of the story: jgn tidur dengan mobile, tak tau ke mana hilang nanti ... hehehe. (and who knows what the radiation could do ... O-K selalu marah letak dalam pocket sbb dekat dengan *there* i'm serious! so that's a homage to him)

oh man, i LOVE the apple store. i was SO amazed looking at the latest generation ipod videos ... hmmmmmmmmmmm <- feeling an itch. seriously nice. nowadays the ipods display album art as well as title, and the screen is quite nice. video plays well. my ipod black & white je ... 3rd generation lah katakan *sob*sob* (however, i always keep in mind DITH's nasihat to be happy with what we have, that was a really good article I take heart even till now).

OK later my friends, i'm about to start continuing my Eureka Seven marathon (yeay!) but i bet i'll fall asleep after 15 minutes.

take care everyone

Mama Pongkey said...

:) last week I inserted album art on my ipod. Looks good but still keciklah. Seriously you are not missing much. And mine is NOT an ipod video so I don't think there is much difference.

Hehehe I do usually make sure the mobile is away from me. So many things out of the ordinary. O-K said that to you? Hehehe. I still have cells to look at so scratch calling my mobile company anytime soon... arrrgghhh... lapar and ngantuk...

mynn said...

yup O-K selalu warning ... against putting mobiles anywhere near the crotch area. im not even considering buying a new ipod at the moment KKL, it's too expensive. the exception is: if mine rosak, or there's a VERY significant upgrade.

Wow...iPod owners always look cool. Mental note to self: Must try to save money to get own iPod

mynn said...

see KKL, told you you're bad influence, kesian hiyoshi!

Mama Pongkey said...

Me??? Bad influence???

*angelic look*

Now I wonder who among us got the iPod first and kept raving about podcasts and whatnot? :P~

Takpe Hiyoshi, hope you get to have one soon. An alternative is to drop not very subtle hints to the parental units about great exam results and incentives. (your parents are going to hate me for this, but to make it easy on them, bargain for 2 consecutive outstanding exam results in order to earn the iPod).

Being the non-techie that I am, I have just figured out that you can set the equalizer for each song. Hahahaha. So am doing that for the stuff I listen to most.

A friend recently got this:

http://shop.sonystyle-europe.com/SonyStyle/b2c/deeplink.do?s=external&ss=show&countryId=GB&languageId=EN&id=NWA1200&campaignId=LEC-ODWNWA120006

The pic doesn't do it justice. It's the size and weight of a small flip phone, it fits snugly in your palm. The surface is so shiny that you can check your reflection on it (so no more carrying mirrors around!) and the display (the coolest bit in my humble opinion) is as though it were a hologram being projected on the shiny surface. The preloaded song that came with the player sounds great. The test would be when she downloads the same stuff that I have into her player, as then we can compare the sound quality.

But whatever it is, like you mynn, I am more than happy with my iPod. It looks cool, has amazing storage capacity (60GB) colour screen, and helps me going during the long lonely hours in the lab and at the microscope.

if anyone is waiting to get an ipod, i suggest waiting. as there is a rumoured video ipod in the works (when that comes out then ill be thinking to upgrade, urm, maybe).

i had a look at the sony ipod thingy. it does look very cool. i've actually seen it in shops (even tesco pun ada KKL) and even got to listen, it does sound nice, and look nice. i'm glad some people (by "some people" i mean you, KKL) who don't just think the only one mp3 player out there is Apple's ipod. there are many other brands like iRiver, creative and Sony's Walkman. some of them offer more functions AND are much cheaper, you know.

Mama Pongkey said...

Eh bukan ke iPod video dah keluar last year?

Re: mp3 players: I know. I just had too many CDs that I couldn't handle, so I got the iPod as a long term investment for me and O-K. I also got the iTalk to record talks. Then I found out about other mp3 players... dang. Oh well. iRiver siap ada built in radio and recorder lagik.

Mama Pongkey said...

Ahhh I see... rumours that the click wheel will be incorporated into a huge screen to enable better video viewing?

Hehehe I'd wait till they getall the bugs figured out before going for that one. Friends who got the iPod Nano complained of it being easily scratched... ada je bugs.

Sometimes I think Apple is making huge money out of testing products on consumers.

Anonymous said...

yes that one, the ipod video with a huge touch screen and scroll wheel integrated into the screen.

if tht comes out, i'll definitely consider buying as:
1. boleh install all my portable software
2. boleh transfer some videos for mobile viewing
3. and store my music/podcasts
4. and pictures!

so tak perlu lug my laptop around if all above is in one package.

:) my goodness, macam promosi pulak... not at all a promotion, just expressing.

Mama Pongkey said...

What would be really great is a gadget that will enable you to transfer photos straight to the ipod. Useful for holidays :) (Kalau tak silap ada dah kat Apple Store).

To balance out the promosi bit:
I am really annoyed with iTunes at the moment. Dulu dengan simple-mindednye gi tekan 'yes' to 'download a new version of iTunes?' and then I find that I have the iPod Video version of iTunes (which means I can't add photos, only videos) AND I lost my latest iTunes Library!!! Grrr!!! Had to reconstruct most of my playlists!!! But it was a good cleanup though, coz then I started adding album art to it :D.

Now takut nak restore the original iTunes version that came with my iPod Photo, takut hilang my playlists again!

As to your list, I think YES to no.s 2 and 3, NO to no.1 (you only have whatever software they allow, although I do treat mine as storage for anime, hehehe) and MAYBE for no.4. Depends on whether they decide to reinclude that feature on iTunes. Granted I don't know what the latest version of iTunes is like.

When I go on and on like this, don't you sometimes feel that a miniature (Mini Me! hehehe) O-K is talking? I creep myself out sometimes when I consider the amount of new interests I have absorbed from him. I used to be a techie snob. I get great fun blaming O-K for this, because I used to be a simple, easily contented soul, and now he has to finance interests that he himself encouraged! :D

wah, KKL pun dah pandai with gadgets skrg. i used to remember O-K squirming under your stare when he mentioned he wanted a new graphics card.

and how you said, kalau dia nakal you're going to disconnect his graphics card: LOL.

there are mp3 players that allows transfer of pictures straight. one example of many is: iriver. Uncle de uses an iriver. although it looks fugly and bulky (sorry uncle de!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but these iriver has ALOT of functions and supports more formats that apple's ipod. (however, nowadays i prefer stylish to function:p )

to be honest KKL, iv also had to reconstruct my playlists again and again and again under itunes especially after reinstalling windows. after a while, i don't bother with making new playlists as it's a BIG hassle. eh, betul ke itunes dah tak support uploading pictures -- that's a backward step! being able to integrate pictures, music & video in one tiny package is a great idea. the psp comes to mind at this point, but the psp doesn't have a hard disk <-- bad idea sony.
