Can you post photos of people on your blog?

I have always wondered whether it's okay to post up pictures of people (whether I know them or not) on Flickr or my blog and finally I got the answer today.

An article on Wired titled Stalker or Shutterbug? explains that it's okay to take pictures of people as long as [this is my own words, sorry if I'm mis-conveying the message:] it is in a public place where a camera is expected (meaning not in for example a toilet, or hotel room).

Read in detail: Wired
via Gizmodo (thanks!)

note: please don't be shy to let me know if you don't like your photos being in my blog or Flickr, I'll remove them in an instant.

That pic looked as though you captured Sarah from the keyhole of the toilet door,(you're the one inside the toilet, i,e,) allowed ke? :))

hehehe, that's the point of the photo lah dith, i.e macam stalker....

about keyhole of the toilet door ....... that's really stretching it!

Had the same thoughts as DITH - but not of the toilet door keyhole T_T I was thinking more of like you squatting in a sewer pipe. Even more absurd? Haha...

korang dua ni memang imaginasi terlalu tinggi lah. kelakarlah dith, "if you're the one inside the toilet" tu ... LOL. i suppose asalkan subject kat tempat public, tak pe lah kalau photographer dlm semak ke, dlm toilet ke kan?

(disclaimer: my statement above was a joke and not to be taken as advice on photography laws)

I've read somewhere in a travel guide book that says (of taking pictures of ppl in public), it's OK to take pictures of a person as long as you get his/her consent.
However, it'll be an unnatural pose if you take the picture of that person after getting the permission. So they suggested that 1st take a candid picture first, then ask permission, take another picture of that person in action. But if the person declines, scrap all pictures.
That is some ethics of photography.

hehe..i was busy reading on Amar's entry I miss this one. To be honest, it's not a bad image at all. Framing is one of the element that makes up a composition. Good Photojournalist will always try to use their environment to frame the subject and I can say, you got good eye Mynn. I was just wondering..what's that you're shooting thru? I think it would be better if you zoomed out a bit and let some more of it in the frame. that way it will have some meaning in your image rather than a plain dark frame. Btw, there's nothing to be 'malu' of as I pun selalu imitate other people's work..for me, in the world of art..imitation is the best way to learn and it's not even close to plagiarism as you will never get it exactly the same. Just my 2p :D

p/s: pakai point & shoot pun dah creative giler..kalu dah ada DSLR nanti tak tahu mcm mana..
