How to survive a slow internet connection

This is for you Uncle De.

I found this article on Lifehacker which discusses how to optimise browser settings to maximise bandwith use (especially when you're still using dial-up, LOL).

Summary:
  1. Increase cache size in Firefox
  2. Disable Java option
  3. Use flashblock and adblock extensions in Firefox
  4. Load other links in tabs in the background while you read an article
  5. Use an RSS reader to read articles offline
  6. Use Thunderbird to download and read emails offline
Summarised from the original and therefore more in-depth article by Gina Trapani, link here.
Link to Lifehacker (a great site for tips like above!)
