- Horrible sleep hygiene
- Headaches
- Back pain
- Poor attention span
The typical geek trains their brain to be heavily focused while multitasking day after day. Is it surprising that this same brain does not do well when forced to isolate down to one task?Note: Notice the time I'm posting this

Hehehe.. some of my random thoughts :
So what do you call geeks that are not really geeks..
Calling someone a geek is like easily pegging someone to a sub group, marginalising them.. people I believe are more complex than that.
One can love reading, computers and studying but at the same time like sports, outdoor games as well as physical activities.
What actually is a geek livestyle? The health problems listed could easily be related to someone working two jobs trying to feed his/her family.. lack of sleep, headaches due to mounting medical bills, back pain due to heavy lifting and physical exertion, poor attention span due to lack of sleep and worrying about the bills. hehehe
I guess Americans (yeaps I am generalizing)like to stereotype people as it makes them feel comfortable when they can label something.. they rarely go out of their comfort zone and challenge the status quo. Uniqueness is not celebrated in their culture, conformity being the big buzz word.
For me everyone is a unique individual. More headaches as I need to treat differently but it is the only way to be fair.
Regards
you're right my friend, i think america is abit obsessive with these buzzwords "it's all about the 'human energy'" -- promotion of Xbox360. and "geek" is just a label. but anyway i think the article means people who sits infront of their computers for prolonged periods are susceptible to thinks like back pain (posture related), poor sleep and poor attention span.
I can attest to poor sleep and having a poor attention span. Poor sleep is obvious but regarding the poor attention span is because people who uses computers tend to multitask (10 firefox tabs at the same time anyone? surfing the internet, while listening to music, while defragging the drive, while having the tv on?) hehehe. Because we (or i) multitask so much, i tend to divert less attention to one particular task and i think i do have a short attention span. but i just found an article on how to overcome this. i'll post it up in a second. but it's something to do with trying to concentrate on one task (ie. khusyu' like in prayers. some people say if you observe your prayers proper, and you are khusyu' you tend to have a sharp memory).
Anyone who spends too much time on the computers will have those problems...
