Married; with two kids and one wife, to me time alone is a luxury. The past week, I have actually been staying at the hospital's accomodation rather than makng the 2 hour journey per day back home. Partly to recover from the previous busy weekend, partly to save on fuel but mostly to avoid travelling on the could-be-dangerous motorways where accidents happen daily.

Sitting and eating alone *sigh*

However, I find staying alone a fight against boredoom. I always miss seeing and playing with the little cheeky ones and food always doesn't taste as nice eaten alone. To occupy time, and the weather being so nice, I thought it would be a good idea to explore the outdoors.

I decided to buy dinner and eat it outdoors. There is a field or garden outside the hospital, where the helicopter pad is located. The place is called "Pocket Park".

I followed the yellow brick road and found wonders

Eating outside was so serene. I tend to have these secret hideaways throughout the years. In high school I'm not sure whether even O-K noticed I used to sneak away at weekends or during the afternoon prep hours with a (text/)book. I used to study behind a building just at the perimeter of our school. I studied anatomy under a tree by the beach in Terengganu during a summer holiday in Malaysia, and at university I frequently studied microbiology at the park. Eating dinner outside really brings me back to those years.

Walking further onwards, I was surprised to find shy rabbits scampering away.

I was even more surprised to discover a beautiful little lake. Teaming with frogs and tadpoles at various stages of metamorphosis. Infact, most of the lake surface was covered in frog spawn. The tiny creatures do look slightly hideous. Some of the tadpoles had two legs, some had four with long tails.

My Solero and Book

Zoom and you probably could see the tadpoles

I spent the rest of that evening taking pictures of everything, lapping up a Solero (favourite icecream) and reading Earthsea.

funny you should mention this. Only two days ago I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who's wife and kids were in KL visiting her parents. Any way, we were both flying back from KL and I asked him why he did not stay back in KL with his kids. He said after three weekends in a row on the road he wanted to relax...

so I guess even when one is married there still needs be a time where one is alone for a short period...

I guess everyone needs their space from time to time so if the spouse asks for it me must always respect that, for one day we may need it ourselves..

btw - during those times prep was boring so yeah.. curling up with a book is good... especially timothy zahn.. hehehe

2 hrs away huh? Almost like Kuantan to KL. If it was me, I'd pack Nisak and the kids together on the road!

Agreed. Time for solitude is very, very necessary for oneself. It's the time where you don't have to think about other people, don't have to think about their problems etc.

Nice pictures by the way. Oh, and tadpoles are slightly hideous, are they? *LOL*

well, it's only 1 hour away on the motorway (at 70miles per hour). tapi both ways make it 2 hours :) true, about just moving to the work place. but since we have been staying here because we like this place.

enjoy while you can man, enjoy while you can ... no i rephrase; treasure your bachelor years.
:) haha

(married years are also treasured, just differently).

I'll echo you mynn at giving advice to Hiyoshi:"Enjoy while you can man, enjoy while you can ... no I rephrase; treasure your bachelor years."

I'm married with 5 kids, can you understand and appreciate why I need my 'Tiga hari Dua malam' all by myself, from time to time?

Oh jeez...I figure that wives won't be rather happy reading this column.

And mama sarah, if you happen to be anything like my mom, when I tell her to have some personal luxury time, she will reply "Malas". And that puzzles me. Where will you go for your luxury time?

Salaam..
I guess we all need that "alone" time (married or not) to reflect upon everything that is going on in our lives.
