Picture: Atlas, and his big onusI came upon the word "onus" the second time while reading DITH's excellent post on her blog, on how bringing up a child is analogous to flying a kite. Perplexed by what such a word could mean, I decided to investigate. According to dictionary.com and various other online dictionaries the word Onus is a noun that means:
1. A burden; an obligation; a disagreeable necessity.
2. a: A stigma. b: Blame.
3. The burden of proof.
It's derived from the Latin word "Onereus" which means "burden". A few examples on how the word "onus" could be used in a sentence:
- The prisoner decided to share his onus with his fellow in mates.
- "Onusly, I didn't do it."
- The prime minister has a heavy onus.

True, very true. But once there is certainty, how can one turn one's back from it and drag your heels? That is called procrastination, and last I heard, also another one of the Devil's little tricks.
Spookily enough I just read that article before coming to this blog. Hmmm.
