Straight after our tiring and extensive visit to the Giant's Causeway, we headed to Dunluce Castle, which was just around 10 minutes away from the Causeway. Dunluce Castle is the ruins located at the very edge of a basalt outcropping in quiet and peaceful Antrim, Northern Ireland. Thought to be of extremely strategic importance, the Castle is separated from the mainland by steep cliffs and is connected by just a narrow bridge. A "mermaid's "cave" underneath the castle was thought to provide the occupants a route of escape.

you know what ikelah & o-k, i think the castle has been seized again and again so it has been in the possession of irish and scottish families. (sorry kalau silap fakta, we only vaguely remember the tour info). as O-K says, there's a 30 metres, steep cliff (by steep i mean 90 degrees steep) separating the castle and mainland. the cliff is 12 metres wide. also, when the tide is in, the castle would be surrounded by sea water (and the caves underneath would be flooded). so people from both the sea and mainland would find it difficult to invade the castle.
i was hoping my brother was able to explain more, and the text for the photos are still pending but he has a driving test today :)

hehehehe mana dith dapat silent n ni hehehe. dunluce is pronounced "dune" + "loose". to me it sounds scottish. speaking of pronounciations kan, its amusing hearing my brother's english which is spoken in the local (irish) accent.
it's nice to have acquired all those accents. I have a patient who was from Sains KT and studied medicine in Cork. He came back for hols after 1 yr and he was talking with thick Irish accent. I think he got married when he was in his final yr. Forgot his name.
ic... now i understand. strategically placed but not of any strategic value to any kingdom either scots or irish i guess.

every picture i took in ireland so far, i couldnt help but think only ikelah or paul moss could do the place justice. im not happy with any of the photos! i'm actually using my parents' sony camera. the date-stamp at the lower right corner is a real eye sore, grr. (probably the "right gear" could help slightly :p) also ive noticed three things :
1. it's really difficult to coordinate a large number of people into nice pictures
2. taking pictures of people and significant places diminish the niceness of the place somewhat. it's probably better to take picture of either one or the other, and display the two seperately.
3. it's WELL DIFFICULT to align pictures to appear straight.
btw - in that last picture you could see the mermaid's cave. it's the dark crevice outside of which a small group of people're gathered.

i wonder what it is about ireland, but i kid you not, ramai undergraduates kat sini kahwin very early, mid-studies. (err, since i also got married mid-studies i suppose i'm NOT one to talk). my brother also has a thick irish accent - tak paham his english, err, irenglish.
hahaha.. kahwin awal sebab kat ireland tak ada benda lain nak buat kot... kalau kat england at least seronok sikit.. of course in your case you were in cardydd...so tak kira.. another tempat that people get married early..
