Borakphoto Assignment: Salam Ramadhan - Completed!

All done! This image is actually a composite of images of memorial statues in Coventry. I saw the bound devil, and immediate thought of how devils are all bound and constricted during the holy month of Ramadhan. Perfect for this month's borakphoto assignment:)

The picture is GIMPed from the following ones:

This is the background (i.e bottom-most layer) image. I wanted the three colours - blue, red and black to subconsciously convey heaven, hell, and the dark pits of hell.
---

These are the statues I was talking about, right at Coventry's cathedral. I sampled the image of the "winged creature" from this image. I isolated the winged creature, and using curves I increased the highlights and reduced the green (to make it appear white, shiny and glowy).
---

I isolated the devil from this accidental/test image. I used curves to increase the red colour, and reduce green.
---

A discarded image.

Enjoy!

Mynn,

Frankly speaking, I'd prefer if you havent manipulated the whole thing too much. The final picture came out as though it was just a painting of some sort leaving no clues of their origins. Changing the colors of the statues made it worst.

To my eye, I'd use the pic with both statues on the wall in si tu, keeping most of the original surroundings and perhaps photoshoped a bit to make the statues more outstanding.

But never mind me!

GASP, dith -- you are sounding like M yamashita and P. Moss!!!!! LOL

however, i agree. i agree 100% that my borakphoto submission this time is too GIMPed for even my liking. borakphotos is supposed to be a place for photos, not GIMP wizardry.

nonetheless, since most members there photoshop their image like heck anyway, i feel less guilty. i actually wanted to go back to the site this weekend & submit a PROPER photograph (i.e not GIMPed) -- but since borakphoto assignments have deadlines, i was struck for time.

plus the forecast for the weekend is rainy throughout;(

if the weather is good, i may still submit a proper photo of the monument though:)

-- thanks dith

i hope you dont think it's too blasphemous ............ it was difficult to come up with ideas for the assignment. ambik gambar kurma would be too conventional pulak.

alynn
not much of a "photo" entry i'm afraid. i may add a proper photo this weekend though. when are you submitting yours...?:)

why would i think it is blasphemous? org puji betul2 nih.

I`d like to know more in depth of the post production techniques. I think you are good there.

Wicked! I like the composition. Truly I do. I'm weak when it comes to things like that. I'm still learning Photoshop, even if the 350D has already been in my possession for the past year. Bleugh.

Oh, thanks for dropping by my blogsite and welcome to the world of Canon!

Psstt... kita lagi better dari yang lagi satu nyer DSLR tu. Lol.

Oh those pictures you saw on Flickr. They are actually digitally enhanced. Not many of the pictures taken by DSLR can be THAT perfect. Gambar yang di petik dari DSLR nak kena pakai makup jugak. Lol. I usually stick to natural lighting to get the picture I want. Tapi, kekadang pun ade selit jugak makeup sikit-sikit.

I like the red-flower-with-white-tips photo. If you had taken it using a macro lens, ooh la la. Do you have the original size photo? Boleh jadi my lappy wallpaper. Hehehe...

The technique is wow but the final photo is not to my liking. IMHO it looks too 'cartoony' and it doesn't really potray the greatness of Ramadhan. Sorry Muhaimin but I must salute you for the technique. You're the GIMfu (GIMP dan sifu diGIMPkan LOL)

And whats wrong with taking photos of kurma for the assignment? I think it would be just as great. -->Kawe maghoh awok ni bukan sebab ape, sebak kawe pon penah tepikir nak ambik gambo kurma nak anto untuk assignment tu :D

p.moss
you teach me about taking photos, i'll gladly reciprocate. i learnt GIMP/Photoshop by following the step by step tutorials -- links are at the sidebar.

kynne
haha, another canon user yay for us!

about the pictures on flickr i guess so but you have to admit -- many are very2 good. you know what kynne, thanks to my previous 3MPX Sony, i had to really sharpen my post production techniques. i guess i owe the Sony alot! :)

re: the red & white flower, i guess i captured it in the wrong lighting (dusk) and i should have used a tripod (yet to be bought)

what accessories/lenses do you have, and what do you recommended for someone just starting?

successfully Gimped! Though the pictures looks scary. Hey, why don't you reposition the spear as though the angel is piercing the devil. Muahaha..

If I were to GIMP it, it'll look like rough cut and paste job.. something like a standard 3 art work. heheh..

I'm stil working on my photo. Took one the other day, but you know how point and shoot cameras are at night... how I wish I have a dslr.

Mynn I apologise if my comment above sounded a bit harsh. Sorry tau. Jangan kecik hati. Semua gambar2 lain semua I suka, yg ni je rase gambar tu nampak pelik sikit. Please don't stop posting more pictures tau.
